What is a Remove GST Calculator?
A Remove GST Calculator helps you find the original amount before GST when the amount you have already includes GST.
It separates a GST-inclusive total into the original value and the GST amount included in that total.
How to remove GST from a total amount
To remove GST correctly, you need to reverse the calculation that was originally used to add GST.
Example: Remove 18% GST from ₹1,180
Suppose a total price of ₹1,180 already includes 18% GST.
Therefore, the original amount without GST is ₹1,000 and the GST included in the final price is ₹180.
Why subtracting 18% directly is incorrect
If ₹1,180 includes 18% GST, calculating 18% of ₹1,180 gives ₹212.40. Subtracting that amount would give ₹967.60, which is not the original taxable value.
This happens because the 18% GST was originally calculated on ₹1,000, not on the final ₹1,180 total.
How to use this calculator
Enter the final amount that already includes GST.
Choose 5%, 12%, 18%, 28% or enter another rate.
The calculator shows the value before GST.
See the GST component contained in the total.
GST inclusive vs GST exclusive
The amount already contains GST.
The amount is before GST has been added.
Remove common GST rates

When can a reverse GST calculation be useful?
Removing GST can be useful when reviewing an GST-inclusive price and you need to understand the original value and the tax included in the final total.
Check the mathematical GST component in an inclusive invoice amount.
Compare prices based on their value before GST.
Calculate the underlying value of a quote that includes GST.
Perform reverse GST calculations without calculating the formula manually.
Does the calculator calculate CGST, SGST or IGST?
This calculator calculates the total GST component. It does not determine whether that GST should be split into CGST and SGST or treated as IGST.
This calculator performs percentage-based calculations for general information and estimation.
It does not determine the legally applicable GST rate, classification, place of supply, input tax credit eligibility or other compliance requirements. For important tax decisions, check current official guidance or consult a qualified professional.
